In accordance with the policy approved by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), the contact information a domain is registered with must be valid and accurate at all times. Moreover, this information is openly available on WHOIS websites and while this may be OK for organizations, it may not be very acceptable for individuals, because everybody can see their names and their personal email and postal addresses, particularly in times when identity theft isn’t that unusual. That’s the reason why domain name registrars have come up with a service that conceals the details of their customers without altering them. The service is called Whois Privacy Protection. If it is enabled, people will see the details of the registrar, not the domain owner’s, if they make a WHOIS enquiry. The Whois Privacy Protection service is supported by all generic domain name extensions, but it’s still not possible to conceal your private information with certain country-code extensions.

Whois Privacy Protection in Website Hosting

If you’ve ordered a website hosting service from us and you have registered one or more domain names under your account, you will be able to activate Whois Privacy Protection for any of them without any effort and to keep your personal data secure. Of course, this will be possible only with the TLD extensions that support such a service. In your Hepsia hosting Control Panel, you’ll notice an “Whois Privacy Protection” icon next to each of your domain names. Its color will show you whether a domain name is Whois Privacy Protected or not and in the second case, you can activate Whois Privacy Protection with just a few clicks of the mouse. Thus, you can protect your personal info even if you haven’t enabled the service during the hosting account activation procedure. You’ll be able to renew or to disable the Whois Privacy Protection service for any of your domains just as easily.

Whois Privacy Protection in Semi-dedicated Hosting

Ordering Whois Privacy Protection for any domain is very easy in case you have a semi-dedicated server. As long as the domain name is registered with us, it will be displayed in the Registered Domains section of the Hepsia Control Panel that is included with each semi-dedicated server package. If a particular generic or country-specific domain name supports Whois Privacy Protection, you’ll see a small icon next to that domain. To enable the Whois Privacy Protection service, you’ll have to click on it. In the same fashion, you can also renew or remove the service. You can order Whois Privacy Protection for a domain during the account activation process as well, but since the service is optional, we will give you the possibility to add it to any of your domains at a later time if you change your mind and decide to conceal your private info from the public after you’ve already ordered the semi-dedicated account.
